Success Stories from BNU - Department of Liberal Arts - Mehsum Basharat:
I graduated from BNU in 2018 with a B.A. (Hons.) in Liberal Studies. For my undergraduate thesis, I conducted ethnographic research in the slums surrounding Lahore to understand how informal slum dwellers access basic utilities such as water and gas, it got me really interested in environmental sustainability issues. After my graduation, I went to George Washington University in Washington D.C., USA, it’s where I am now finishing my M.A. in International Affairs with a focus on Economics & Environmental Policy. I am truly passionate about conservation, climate change and renewable energy markets.
During the past two years in D.C., I have had the opportunity to work as a Graduate Fellow for prestigious policy think-tanks, such as the World Resources Institute and The Brookings Institution conducting policy research and advising the public & private sector towards sustainable development and a zero-carbon future. I am currently working as an Associate Editor with a quarterly journal, the International Affairs Review where I help with publishing research from policy experts on pressing environmental security issues around the world. Additionally, I am also remotely consulting for an award-winning social startup in Pakistan that provides water access solutions to water-scarce neighborhoods in Rural Sindh.
Looking back, I am forever grateful to the great faculty and my Professors at the DLA Department who helped me build a solid foundation for a career in public policy.
